The story behind LIKE A DRUG

After a longer break between releases, we wanted our new single to make a clear statement. No cautious re-introduction, no quiet warm-up. Just a song that makes you feel from the very first second: Oh shit, they’re back. That exact feeling was the driving force behind the writing process.

Lyrically, the song explores a dynamic many people know all too well, even if it’s often difficult to put into words: sacrificing yourself for someone in a one-sided, toxic way. Giving more and more of yourself until there’s almost nothing left. The central metaphor of the song captures this perfectly: “Make me the wax that feeds your flame.” Wax that keeps a flame alive even as it completely burns away in the process.

Musically, we wanted to capture that same emotional intensity. The song blends modern metalcore elements with memorable melodies, intricate arrangements and the heavy, groovy breakdowns we love ourselves. Ideally, all at once for anyone who enjoys those sounds packed into a massive metalcore sandwich. That combination was exactly what made the writing process so exciting for us. Even within the song there are moments that still hit us every time we hear them. One of them is the main riff after the intro and chorus. It carries exactly the kind of energy we want to bring to the stage. We always try to experiment and push ourselves a little further with every new song and we feel like we managed to do that here once again.

Our songs rarely come together overnight. Sometimes we spend an entire week working intensively on an instrumental idea. Other times a concept stays with us for months before it finally finds the right shape. The lyrics, on the other hand, often come together much more spontaneously. For this song they were finished within a day or two. What matters most to us is keeping the lyrics open enough for listeners to project their own experiences and emotions onto them. In the end, there’s one thing we hope our music does above all else: evoke emotion. Maybe you’ll recognize yourself in the lyrics. Maybe the melodies will stay stuck in your head for days. Or maybe it’s the moment the breakdown hits and you immediately find yourself jumping straight into the moshpit at a show.

And as if that weren’t enough, the song also comes with a music video we’re especially proud of. From the shoot to the final edit, we gave everything to create something visually compelling, something best experienced on a big screen, just letting it wash over you.
